Alex Byrne is a philosopher at MIT whose work spans the philosophy of mind and, increasingly, the contested conceptual terrain of sex and gender. Alex Byrne is Professor of Philosophy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where his primary research sits in the philosophy of mind and perception. In recent years he has brought that same analytical discipline to some of the most contentious questions in contemporary public life — particularly around sex, gender identity, and the conceptual frameworks that quietly shape how debates are conducted before they have even begun.
He appeared on Beyond Gender in the episode What is a Transgender Child? (July 2026), alongside fellow philosopher Moti Gorin of Colorado State University and host Mia Hughes.
