Beyond Gender is a weekly conversation about what happens when gender identity becomes the organising idea of a culture. Three hosts, one Irish psychotherapist, one researcher and one psychologist, talk to the people who have seen the consequences up close.
What the podcast is
Beyond Gender started in February 2025 as a long-form interview show. Stella O'Malley, Mia Hughes and Dr Bret Alderman sit down with clinicians, researchers, journalists, parents and detransitioners for conversations that usually run over an hour. The aim is not to win an argument in ninety seconds but to understand how a set of ideas about gender travelled from the seminar room into hospitals, schools and courts within a decade.
What this site adds
YouTube is where the episodes live. This site is where they are catalogued. Every full-length episode has its own page with the video, a written summary, the name of the guest and the theme it belongs to, so that a listener who remembers one remark from one conversation can find it again. Guests have their own pages that gather every appearance. The hosts have theirs. New episodes appear here automatically within an hour of going live on the channel.
The point of view
The podcast is gender-critical in the plain sense. Its hosts think biological sex is real and matters, that children cannot consent to lifelong medical pathways, that exploratory psychotherapy is care rather than cruelty, and that institutions which stopped asking questions owe the public an explanation. Guests do not have to agree with any of that, and several have not.
Who publishes it
The podcast and this website are published by Genspect, the international organisation Stella O'Malley founded in 2021 to promote evidence-based approaches to gender distress. Genspect is based in Birr, County Offaly, Ireland. The podcast is independent of any political party and takes no advertising from pharmaceutical or clinical providers.
